It is one of the classic Philippine folk songs that celebrates the joy and simplicity of Filipino folk life. The origin of the Bahay Kubo song, as of today, is still unknown but some folk song experts speculate that it came from the Tagalog Region during the Spanish era. Bahay Kubo is also popularly used as part of a medley tune, together with other famous Philippine folk songs, by rondalla groups and composers. Even in schools, this famous folk song is customarily performed during “Philippine Folk Week” celebrations. It is traditionally taught to most Filipino children at a young age.
